Baggage Allowance

We know that packing for a trip can be stressful, especially when it comes to figuring out what you can bring on the plane and how much you can pack. That's why we're here to help you navigate our baggage policies and ensure that you have a smooth and stress-free travel experience.

Carry-on Baggage

Each passenger is allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item on board. Your carry-on bag should be small enough to fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you. Your item can be a purse, laptop bag, or small backpack. Please keep in mind that your carry-on bag and personal item should not exceed a combined weight of 10kg/22 lbs except for Johannesburg, where the authority restricts this to 15 lbs [7kgs].

The above weight and size limitations shall be verified and confirmed by the use of the WB baggage moulds/ sizers at check-in areas. All baggage exceeding the carry-on baggage limits shall be checked-in. and excess baggage fee will apply.

Wheelchairs or other assistive devices (a fully collapsible invalid wheelchair and/or a pair of crutches) provided that the passenger is dependent on them

When a baby carrycot is carried, lightweight articles such as bedding, diapers, feeding bottles, and sufficient food for the journey may be carried free provided the total weight does not exceed 12 kilograms.

Checked Baggage

We understand that sometimes you need to bring more than just a carry-on bag, which is why we offer checked baggage options for our passengers. The number of checked bags you can bring depends on the purchased ticket and destination.

The standard checked-in baggage allowance is 2 bags of 23 Kgs each in economy class, and 3 bags of 23Kgs each in business class.

We recommend checking your baggage weight before arriving at the airport to avoid surprises. Please note that we cannot accept any single bag exceeding 23kg/50lbs in weight, irrespective of the number of luggage you’re carrying otherwise additional charges will apply.

Baggage Fees

RwandAir offers generous baggage allowances across all ticket classes and destinations. If you need to carry more than what is included in our standard baggage allowances “2 pieces of 23kgs in economy class, and 3 pieces of 23kgs in business class”, additional baggage charges will apply.

The additional baggage charges vary from one destination to another, region to region, and/or destination to region, or vice versa. The excess baggage policy will serve as the basis for rates applicable in each region to the entire network.
